The 2001 Exhibition
The change of venue for the 2001 Exhibition was a success. Over the two weekends, the Portland Drill Hall saw about 500 adult visitors through the doors plus - and this was great to see - an uncounted flood of children.
Some 70% of our visitors came from within the shire, 10% within 100km of the shire, and 20% from more than 100km from the shire. The latter goes to show the attraction of old photographs, and probably the spread of old families of the Western District through the rest of Australia.
The Drill Hall is much bigger than the Digby Hall, but Vern managed to fill it (and he still has plenty of photos that haven't been on show!).
The hard work of Jacky and Michael showed in the much improved captions.
Unexpected treasures always turn up during the Exhibitions. The portraits are Vern's ancestors, and the ladies are relatives.
As an aside, we have had visitors show some shock, even rejection, when they discovered that they were related to Vern! Not these two, though.
