The Photo Exhibition
25/26 August, 2007
Digby Memorial HallThe 2007 Annual Exhibition again centred on the Memorial Hall, although we had photographs in the supper room, the adjacent Mechanics Institute, and in the marquees. This year viewers seemed to spend even more time than usual poring over the prints, and quite a few turned up on both days.
The interest extended into the streets where we saw many groups "Oohing" and "Remember that ..." as they walked around. The McCallum Family Reunion, the photos and displays associated with the Historic Walk, and the evident effort put into the weekend by the locals all probably increased interest in the Digby township.
This year we had many large-format prints hung above the regular sized photos. It is difficult to describe just how much impact a large-format print has. When you see one, you can almost walk into the saw mill or the street!
The Family History section was again at hand, answering (and asking) some very personal questions.
The Mechanics Institute hosted a spinning display, many school records, and a large collection of artifacts found around Digby, mainly using a metal detector.
The Hall Committee and townsfolk have installed a playground, much to the delight of the older children and the frustration of those who can't quite manage by themselves yet.
Michael Greenham of Dartmoor, and his Mum. Michael has helped with the Exhibition for many years.
The reputation of the "Digby Delights" in the Supper Room obviously has spread: this year they sold-out on the Saturday, causing many Digby stoves to be hurriedly fired up.
We were blessed by the warm and calm weather. Scones and tea outside was a most pleasant experience.
There's just nothing like home-made jams and sauces.
