Setting up
the 2007 ExhibitionWalking around the Exhibition, displays and stalls, it is easy to forget how much work goes into setting it all up. In fact, Vern McCallum starts weeks before the event. Photos are selected, captioned and printed in different sizes. Display boards are checked and renovated. The production of catalogues is coordinated with his brother-in-law in Canberra. All materials are brought to the Hall on the Friday before the Exhibition, the photos mounted, signage hung, tables and chairs put in place.
The Digby townsfolk also start well beforehand with working bees, signage and research for the Historic Walk and for the displays in the Mechanics Institute, and arrangements for marquees and other equipment used for the displays and stalls in the Hall grounds.
On the Friday, and Saturday morning there is a last minute flurry as the displays and stalls are set up, and the kitchen and supper room stocked in preparation for the hungry hoards. This year the hungry hoards managed to eat the weekend quota before Saturday ended, so the Digby stoves ran hot that night!
Of course on Sunday evening everything runs in reverse - but faster!
Friday, only another thousand photos left to mount!
Marquees up, now, what to put in them?
Saturday morning - where are we?
More dangerous for some than others.
Two cars, a ute and a Cobb & Co. coach.
Must be the right place.
Some sustenance arrives.
