with the 100th Anniversary of Women's SuffrageThe 2008 Photo Exhibition will be held at the Digby Memorial Hall on the last weekend in August, the 30th and 31st. Opening hours are Saturday 10 am to 4 pm, Sunday 10 am to 3 pm. Admission of $10 for those 16 and over covers entry to the Photo Exhibition, the Digby State School 2047 Reunion, the Family History Expo and all displays and events except Town Historical Walks and Cobb & Co coach rides which incur extra cost.
At 6 pm Saturday there will be a BBQ tea in the Supper Room, open to all, cost $15 per adult, $7 for ages 12 and below. Light refreshments - including the fantastically popular Digby Delights jams and preserves - and lunch will be available all weekend in the Supper Room.

The McCallum Collection Exhibition will feature our usual (!) 1,000 or so photographs, along with special displays in support of the other weekend activities. Each year new photos are added to the Exhibition: we take pride in having visitors who come back many times, each time finding something new or updated, and often bringing in their own photos and memorabilia.
Digby Revisited Weekend activities are many and varied. They include Digby Historic Walks - conducted tours of the town; displays of local history material in the recently renovated Mechanics Institute; working displays of stationary engines and wood turning; a Cobb & Co. coach that will provide trips around the town (extra cost); and more.
The reunion of Digby State School 2047 students and staff will have its own area within the Hall grounds. Registration will be at the school marquee, in the Memorial Hall grounds, from 10am Saturday. At 1 pm there will be an opening address, followed by roll call and photographs.
The last Digby State School building which is now part of the Dartmoor school will be open on Sunday from 1 - 2 pm. Dartmoor is 29 km from Digby.
Our Family History section will be bigger and better than ever, with a Family History Expo organised by the Casterton Historical Society, and supported by the South West Community Foundation and the Glenelg Shire Council. At the Expo will be Warrnambool FHG, Portland, Stawell FHG, Millicent FHG, Mt Gambier Heritage, Edenhope Historical Society, Casterton Historical Society and Cherree Densley with Vanda Savill manuscripts from the former BowerBird Museum, Heywood, along with our regulars, Michael Greenham, Daryl Povey and Geoff Corner.
Of special interest on a weekend featuring a school reunion: Margaret Gardiner of the Hamilton History Centre will exhibit materials from her schools project. Margaret has done a substantial amount of work on the schools of the district and will bring a big map showing all the school sites.
The 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage will be commemorated during the weekend with a Photographic Exhibition funded by the Womens Unit, Dept of Planning and Community Development. "The suffragettes of Casterton and District " book will be launched on Saturday, 30th August, by Ms Gayle Tierney, Upper House, Member Legislative Council, Western Victoria. This book, which provides information on women from Casterton and District who signed the 1891 petition for women's right to vote, will be on sale during the weekend.
This promises to be the biggest and best weekend we have had in the decade-long history of the Vern McCallum Photo Collection Exhibitions. Mark it in your "Must do" calendar, And, don't forget to bring and share your photographs and your memories!
