‘ETTRICK’, TYRENDARRA circa 1870?

Explorers and pastoralists also arrived to the Shire from the east taking up land at Darlot’s Creek or Tyrendarra, initially rejected by the Hentys in 1834. In 1844 William Learmonth sailed from Tasmania to Port Fairy and with men and provisions drove cattle to his new lease ‘Ettrick’. He quickly established a home [pictured] with his wife and children who arrived in 1845.
