Alan told me that although the SA sash appears on the bike in this photo it was actually taken after the boys won the Australian Championship in November of 1953
The Championships were held at Korweingboora ,a track situated between Daylsford and Ballarat.
Alan said that there was no township there but there was a pub {unfortunately the only one he never had a drink in } because the track had two creeks running through it and by the time the race was finished the whole bike and the riders were smothered in mud so all you wanted to do was go home and have a bath.
In this photo the freshly washed bike was pushed across the road and photographed in the gutter Nearby the current AWM Electrical storeand the SA Sash was thrown upon it to symbolise it's Championship standing. The Australian sash had not arrived in time for the photo.
