Sergeant 7042, 14th Battalion, 1/5/1916, RTA 23/7/1919.
m. Cecilia Roselli Wilks 1919, 6 children (Fifi, Eileen, Sheila, Molly, Patricia, Thomas).
Family lived at "Pinegrove", Myamyn. Local doctor rejected enlistment in 1914 due to a known knee injury. While teaching at Charlton West, retried successfully on 4/3/1916 with an unknown doctor at Ararat. Embarked 16/12/1916 on "Medic" with 23rd Reinforcements for 14th Battalion. Trained in England and joined unit in France 11/6/1917. Wounded twice in France, both times required hospitalisation in England: as Lance-Corporal at Ypres 26/9/1917 (P.G. 24/10/1917, 31/10/1917) by shrapnel in the back (rejoined unit 9/3/1918), and again at the Somme 30/3/1918. Rejoined unit 21/8/1918. (P.G. 29/4/1918). Promoted to Corporal 20/9/1918 and Sergeant 1/2/1919. On one occasion in England, met an Irish nurse whom later married. While waiting for a ship home both contracted influenza. Returned to Australia 11/10/1919 on the "Main". Teacher at Drik Drik January 1920 - December 1923; left teaching service in 1930 to run the family property at Myamyn. Retired to Portland late in life. Journalist grandson, Tony Wright, reported on the trip of Australian Diggers to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Armistice 1993. This postcard/picture was written on 16/11/1917.
