COBB AND CO. COACH, CASTERTON ~1890?By the 1870 s Casterton had Cobb and Co services, several times weekly, to Penola, Mount Gambier, Hamilton and Portland. Tom Cawker [1838-1926] was the most famous driver; he operated coaches in Western Victoria for over 70 years. His great claim to fame was carrying Princes Albert and George [later King George V] from Penola to Hamilton.These coaches carried up to 17 passengers together with mail and luggage,the last coach made its final run in 1916 from Casterton to MtGambier.The driver is James Craig Stewart 1861to1942. standing near the back wheel is Thommas Hawker. this photo was taken west of the glenelg hotel on Henty st.
